Join us next Friday for the first On The Fly story slam of 2019 at HiLo Catskill and throw your name in the hat for a chance to tell your 5-minute story. The theme of the night is CRIMES & MISDEMEANORS – stories of broken rules, getting in trouble, run-ins with the law, and other questionable decisions… We want to hear them all!
We’ve got big news! On The Fly Story Slam is taking the slam on the road in 2019 and will be coming to a local venue (hopefully) near you. Our first tour date is January 25 @ 7pm, and we are so excited to do our first 2019 slam at super awesome HiLo Catskill. Other locations for the 2019 tour include Philmont (Main Street Pub), Tivoli, Hudson, Athens. Stay tuned for further updates as we finalize the schedule (and sign up for our email list on Facebook to make sure you don’t miss it!).
Oh, and the theme for the next slam at HiLo is CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS, so start polishing off those stories and come throw your name in the hat on JANUARY 25 @ 7PM to tell a story. Or come enjoy a night of community storytelling.
What are the stories that shape and define your life? How do you uncover them, tell them, perform them and share them with others? This six-week workshop teaches storytelling as a path to both personal and community development.
As we’re headed into the darkness of winter, we call on you to enlighten and brighten the darkness with stories of MAGIC – however you define that word. Magic can appear in the most unforeseen places: chance encounters and sightings on your morning walk, enchanted conversations, political movements that create change. We all need a little magic in our lives. Come share your magical stories on November 20 @ 6pm.
It’s our Birthday and we invite you to join us for a very special celebration of the one year anniversary of On The Fly Story Slam on October 16 @ 7pm. This special show will feature a line-up of some of our favorite storytellers from this past year’s story slams as well as a special guest panel of local judges who will be tasked with the difficult decision of deciding who will take the grand slam title. Come out to support your local storytellers and community, enjoy a drink while listening to some groovy tunes by local performers, stay for dinner, and help us launch a second year of On The Fly Story Slams at Helsinki Hudson.
Stories about boundaries are stories about how we negotiate and act on and in the liminal spaces where right meets wrong, up meets down, us meets them, I meet you.
Come tell YOUR story of boundaries crossed or otherwise encountered on Tuesday August 21 @ 6PM.
Come get a break from the heat and join us for the next On The Fly Story Slam on July 17. Throw your name in the hat to tell a HOT SUMMER STORY – magical things happen in the summer heat and we want to hear your story. Until then – stay cool!

Everybody has a story to tell and uncovering the stories that most uniquely define us can be one of the most rewarding and healing creative outlets. In this workshop, you will be introduced to the principles of storytelling and will learn to craft and share your own story. Using physical exploration, playmaking and mining the very richest parts of your personal story, you will learn to tell and ultimately perform your story with authenticity and confidence. In addition to performing their stories in the workshop setting, participants will be given the opportunity to perform their story at one of the monthly On The Fly Story slams at Helsinki Hudson.
